2026 Run — Final Results

7 hubs · 6 flights · 3,788 miles in 20h 28m

The middle of the day came apart — a maintenance aircraft swap, then delay chasing delay from Chicago to Denver. Across the six legs, 545 minutes of delays piled up. The run still landed in San Francisco just 26 minutes behind a 20-hour plan — a schedule built to absorb exactly this kind of day.

The N24542 cascade

Legs 2, 3, and 4 all operated on the same airframe: N24542, an Airbus A321neo. United's records show leg 2 (UA1775 IAD→ORD) required an aircraft swap due to a maintenance issue on the original plane. N24542 was the replacement.

Leg 3 (UA723 ORD→IAH) then inherited a "late aircraft" delay: the swapped-in plane arrived too late for the next departure's minimum service time. The cause-and-effect chain is visible directly in United's published delay codes.

By legs 4–6, United's published delay reasons shifted to "boarding delay" and then "connecting customers." The run closed into SFO just 21 minutes late on the final leg.
